UISD Prom Project Presents At Webb County Courthouse

On March 23rd, The Webb County Judge and Commissioners held their  regular-called meeting with an extraordinary agenda.  United High School students presented UISD’s 2nd annual Prom Project with a “PROMotional” skit and video.  The twelve-member Prom Promotion Team from United High School included Trey San Miguel, Tara San Miguel, Alyssa Vera, Jovany Perez, Alexandra Leal, Amalie San Miguel, Erik Blake, Isidro Alaniz, Vivian Lopez, Jerry Gonzalez, and Alex Cruz.

U.S. Border Patrol Awards  Youth Of The Month Recipients For March

(Laredo, Tx)-United Sates Border Patrol Laredo Sector awards United ISD’s Youth of the Month for March.  This notable award was established in 1986 and continues to recognize one student a month from each of Laredo’s nine high schools.  Students are selected for the honor based on academic achievement, community involvement and demonstration of determination.

UISD’s Outanding 8th Graders Recognized at Special Ceremony

(Laredo, Texas)-Nine UISD middle school students were among those recognized as Outstanding 8th graders for March 2015. These  top performing students were praised and honored for their academic excellence, participating in projects that benefit our community and serving as good role models. This month’s ceremony was hosted by Gonzalez Middle School. The Outstanding 8th Grader of The Month program is sponsored in part by Friends of the Family, KGNS-TV, NGNS –TV, Family Nissan, Telemundo, Laredo Medical Center and the Laredo Police Department.

Fasken Elementary Students Attend UT Open House in Austin

(Laredo, Tx)-On March 7, 1st-5th grade Gifted and Talented (G.T.) students from Fasken elementary attended the Explore UT 2015 open house at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. Explore UT 2015, also known as the “Biggest Open House in Texas,” is an opportunity for students of all ages to see what the University of Texas is all about.

Prom Project 2015 Is Now In Full Effect!

(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD held a press conference to announce the 2nd annual prom project.  The project is dedicated to collecting formal dress attire, new or gently used, to make sure all UISD high school students have the opportunity to go to their prom affordably, with confidence and in style.

UTSA and LCC Partner to Assist Students with Financial Aid Applications

(Laredo, Tx)-Recently the University of Texas San Antonio(UTSA) and Laredo Community College (LCC), helped college bound students with their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) and the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) aboard UTSA’s Mobile Go Center.

Zaffirini Principal Takes Reading to New Heights!!

(Laredo, Tx)-As a reward for meeting their Accelerated Reading (AR) goals, Zaffirini elementary students enjoyed listening to Principal Claudia Y. Benavides read Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham from the top of a hydraulic lift. “Good reading habits helps students in all subject areas, and I promised our students that I would overcome my fear of heights and read a Dr. Seuss book aloud if they met their AR goals”.

United South High School Students, Faculty and Staff Break Ground for New 9th Grade Campus

(Laredo, Texas)-Donning their proud school colors, the “mighty panthers” of United South High School broke ground on the future 9th grade campus.  Located about two blocks south of the main campus, the building will be a standalone two-story structure with a detached Future Farmers of America Agriculture program. The approximate square footage will be about 200,000 square feet and will serve about 1,200 students.

Lyndon B. Johnson High School Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) Holds Health Fair

Lyndon B. Johnson High School Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) recently held a health fair for students, faculty and staff the campus. The Health Fair offered blood pressure and glucose checks, among other screenings.
