United ISD Names Several Administrators to Director Posts

 United Independent School District Superintendent Roberto J. Santos is pleased to announce that the following individuals have been named to various administrative positions within the District.  These individuals and their positions were approved during a Special Called Meeting of the Board of Trustees held on July 16, at the Central Office Boardroom located at 201 Lindenwood Drive.
 They are as follows:

UISD Discipline Management Team at Chicago Conference

(Laredo, Tx)-Annette Perez, UISD Director of Discipline Management, was accompanied by her group of District Gang Facilitators when she attended the National Conference for School Discipline in Chicago Ill.
While there, Ms. Perez and her entourage presented and discussed some of the protocols that are utilized by the District to address girl-bullying, which includes direct intervention, student and parent education, safety plans, and a district-wide curriculum. The conference was held June 29-July 2.

UISD Announces Summer Break and Tax Office Hours Of Operation

 (Laredo, Tx_The following departments of the United Independent School District will observe a special work schedule for the week of July 7, 2014.  The schedule will be as a follows:
 UISD Tax Office (located at 3501 East Saunders)-Any UISD taxpayer who would like to pay their District taxes in person can do so between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from July 7 through July 10, 2014.  The Tax Office will be closed on July 11, 2014.  Taxpayers may also pay their taxes anytime online at the …

Clemente Camarillo Sworn in as UISD Police Chief

 (Laredo, Tx)-United ISD is Proud to announce that is has a new top cop.  Clemente Camarillo was sworn in as police chief on Monday, June 30 before District colleagues, honored guests and representatives from the Webb County law enforcement community.  Camarillo previously served the District as Interim Chief of Police for the last calendar year.  Webb County and Zapata’s District Attorney, Isidro “Chilo” Alaniz presided over the searing in ceremony, which took place at the SAC meeting room # 1.  Camarillo has a long and distinguished history with …

UISD Student has Olympic Goal

(Laredo, Tx)-With her eye on making the USA Olympic Volleyball Team, Lorena Contreras, a 6th grader at Trautmann Middle School, is on the fast track to realizing this dream with her acceptance to the Girls’ Future Select National Training Program in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Contreras was one of 10 young girls from Texas, and 96 from the country, to be selected for the exclusive program.
She has been playing volleyball since she was in first grade at Trautmann Elementary School. Contreras will be accompanied by her family when she travels …

Angelica Fierro Wins New Kia Soul!

(Laredo, Tx)- Perfect Attendance Pays Off!  Angelica Fierro, a junior at United High School, is the proud new owner of a brand new 2014 Kia Soul.  The car give away was part of the United ISD and Sames “Kia in the Klassroom” Program which promoted the importance of daily school attendance through the 2013-14 school year.

Finley Elementary Ecology Club Raises Funds For Animal Charity

(Laredo, Tx)-When Oregon State University student Karla Garcia decided to conduct a fundraiser for the Animals Asia Foundation (AAF), she set off a wave of support at her home-town Finley elementary school. Her Mother, Martha Garcia, is a 5th grade teacher at Finley elementary school.
Upon learning about her daughters’ efforts, Martha urged the Finley Ecology Club to research the plight of the Asiatic Black Bear (Moon Bear), which is regularly and inhumanely farmed for its bile. Upon hearing about the bears’ predicament, Ecology Club students began to further …

Alexander Trio Sign Scholarship Pacts

(Laredo, Tx)-June 2nd, 2014  will always be cherished by three Alexander high school
athletes students who signed their scholarships during a ceremony held
inside the campus’ Dazzler studio.
Gabriel Sanchez and Rudy Gaona signed
their baseball scholarships for Laredo Community College. Between their
sophomore and senior years at Alexander, Sanchez and Gaona made All District
Selection and earned the titles of Three Year Starters, Regional Finalists,
Semifinalists and Quarterfinalists.
Alexander senior Ashley Ortiz signed
her basketball scholarship for Morton University in Chicago, Illinois. Ortiz
averaged nine points per game this season during which the Alexander Girl’s

UNITED ISD PREPARES FOR 2014 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES

(Laredo, Tx)-The educational journey for over 2,800 United Independent School District high school students has led them to the great moment of distinction – graduation.  And the District is busy finalizing details for the upcoming ceremonies that will take place June 6 and 7 at the Laredo Energy Arena, located at 6700 Arena Boulevard.
