(Laredo, Tx)-The “Let’s Move for Scholars: Untamed Zumba Master Class” took place this past Saturday, January 17th at United Middle School’s Gymnasium.

The event was an extreme success with over 250 participants joining in the Zumbathon.  This event not only emphasized the importance of health and fitness but also raised funds for college scholarships.

Los Obispos Middle School Recognizes School Board Members…

(Laredo, Tx)-The month of January provides a unique opportunity to acknowledge a special group of volunteer, elected officials in education.  Los Obispos Middle School organized a special gathering at their school to honor UISD’s School Board Members, Ramiro Veliz, III and Ricardo “Rick” Rodriguez.  These two individuals serve the patrons in the Los Obispos Middle School boundary.

Muller Students Inspired by Career Day Guests

(Laredo, Tx)-Career Day at Muller elementary featured guest presenters with backgrounds in education, accounting, government, banking, meteorology, engineering, law enforcement, media and health.
Each presenters conducted multiple 25 minute sessions during the January 9, 2015 event. Rene Parra, Counselor, said that Muller students are very inquisitive and enjoy interacting with a variety of professionals and leaders from our community. 
Principal Mayra N. Ramirez says that Career Day helps students recognize the connection between a good education and rewarding careers.

United Independent School District Notice of Professional Development Day

(Laredo, Tx)-Due to a Districtwide Staff Development Day, there will be no class for students on Monday, January 19, 2015.

However, all United Independent School District Campuses and Administrative Offices will be open during normal business hours. 

Additionally, the UISD Tax Office, located at 3501 E. Saunders, will be open from 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Taxes can also be paid online at www.uisd.net.

All United Independent School District classes will resume their regular schedule on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.

Parents Invited to Learn More About Advanced Placement Courses

(Laredo, Tx)-The United Independent School District’s Advanced Academics Department will host an Advanced Placement (AP) Parent Night Session at 6:00 p.m. on January 15 at the Student Activity Complex Auditorium located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane.  The informational meeting is free and open to all United ISD parents who have students currently attending United ISD high schools or will be next school year.  Advanced placement courses are college-level courses offered to students in high school.

United ISD Nurses Receive Donation of Life Saving Epinephrine Auto Injectors

(Laredo, Tx)-Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening severe allergic reaction that has many possible triggers, occurs without warning, and must be treated immediately with Epinephrine, the only first-line treatment for anaphylaxis. In Decemberof 2014, United ISD nurses received a donation of  90 Epipens from the Mylan Specialty Pharmaceutical Company, which sponsors the national EpiPen4Schools Program.
This program offers free EpiPen and EpiPen Jr(Epinephrine) auto-injectors to public and private elementary, middle, and high schools in the U.S. These auto injectors have been donated to United ISD in the form of EpiPen …

UISD Invites you to Zumba Master Class

(Laredo, Tx)-Let’s help United I-S-D raise money for student scholarships at its 4th Annual “Let’s Run Wild” Zumba Master Class!   
The Zumba Master Class will happen on January 17th at the United Middle School Gym located at 700 E. Del Mar Blvd. from 10 a.m. to noon.
Registration is only $15 and the event will be taught by elite Zumba Master instructors, plus a free t-shirt and goody bag will be given. Best of all, proceeds go to help United I-S-D students with scholarships to college.

Progressive Insurance and Mike’s Paint Place Recycle A Ride for UISD Family

(Laredo, Tx)-In conjunction with the national Recycled Rides Program ,Laredo’s Casarez family was gifted with a beautiful and spacious 2012 Chevy Equinox.  
The family of 10 was in high spirits as Roger Averitt from Progressive Insurance presented them with the keys to their vehicle during a short presentation at Mike’s Paint Place on Polaris Drive.
