A.P. English III Project Helps Students Prepare for Spring Exams

(Laredo, Tx)-United High School A.P. English III students participated in an A.P. exam preparation exercise that required them to mentor fellow students by explaining the contents and message of novels that were assigned to them. Questions about the featured novels have appeared on previous A.P. exams.

UISD Holiday Student Schedule

                (Laredo, Tx)-For the upcoming holiday season, the United Independent School District will observe the following special schedule:

                -December 18, 2014 will be the last, full day for all students.  Students are expected to arrive at school as regularly scheduled and will be dismissed at their usual time.

-December 19, 2014 will be a Professional Development Day and will be the last full day for all employees.

- December 22, 2014 through January 2, 2015 all United ISD campuses and administrative offices, with the exception of the Tax Office, …

LBV Students on a mission to bring joy!

(Laredo, Tx)-Kind-hearted students of Lamar Bruni Vergara Middle School’s Student Council and Dance Team Joined efforts to collect teddy bears for the Webb County Sheriff’s office Share-a-bear project.  The Share-a-Bear Project is hosted by Webb County Sheriff’s Office with an effort to collect teddy bears (new or lightly used) for children who have experienced traumatic events as a result of crime and/or natural disasters.

(Laredo, Tx)-At the start of the school year, George Washington Middle School (GWMS), students were challenged to read a specific number of books per six week period. Students who completed their reading tasks during the 1st and 2nd six weeks challenges were honored during the school’s 1st annual Literacy Rally, which was held on December 5th in the school’s gymnasium.

United ISD Announces 4th Annual “Run Wild” 5K Run, Walk, Zumba Master Class, and Health Fair

 (Laredo, Tx)-It’s that time of year again, time to register for United ISD’s Run, Walk, Zumba Master Class and Health Fair.  The 5k Run, Walk and Health Fair will take place on January 10, 2015 at the Student Activity Complex located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane. The Zumba Master Class will take place on January 17, 2015 at the United Middle School gym located at 700 E. Del Mar Blvd. Proceeds from both events will benefit United ISD students with scholarships to college.

radKids Program Continues To Teach Students About Personal Safety

Laredo, Tx-Preparing students for possible dangerous situations is the focus of the personal empowerment safety education program called radKids. Since the Spring of 2012, the program has been taught to second grade students at all United I.S.D. elementary schools.  Last year, Bonnie Garcia Elementary School decided to implement the curriculum with all students at their campus. This year, Gutierrez Elementary School will do the same. United ISD Placed on the College Board’s 5th Annual AP® District Honor Roll for  Significant Gains in Student Access and Success

Alexander High School Promotes Unity Among Students with MIM Activities

(Laredo, Tx)-On the morning of November 20, Alexander high school students, including the Mighty Bulldog Band, Dazzlers, Air Force ROTC, cheerleaders, basketball team and Anime Club hosted a Meet in The Middle (MIM) parade on the campus grounds. MIM is an effort spearheaded by Special Olympics to promote acceptance and inclusion of students with and without intellectual disabilities. The parade is one of many Districtwide activities that creates a unifying and interactive environment for all.

Notice of Upcoming Holiday Schedule for United ISD

(Laredo, Tx)-In observance of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, all United Independent School District campuses and administrative offices, including the Tax Office located at 3501 E. Saunders, will be closed from November 24-28, 2014.  Taxes, however; can be paid online at the UISD web site located at www.uisd.net, by clicking on the “Pay Taxes Online” icon. Taxpayers may also contact the District’s delinquent tax attorneys, the Law Offices of Alarcon and Saenz at (956) 727-8585.

UISD’s Tomorrow’s Teachers Program Draws Over 500 Students

(Laredo, Tx)-On Novmber 18, 2014, 537 elementary, middle and high school students participated UISD’s Tomorrow’s Teachers program at the UISD SAC auditorium and meeting rooms. The Tomorrow’s Teachers program is an annual initiative that provides encouragement to students who are considering a career in teaching. The theme of this year’s mini-conference was Teaching is Out of This World.
