(Laredo, Texas)-On June 30, 2015 Brandy Barrientos, a recent graduate of Lyndon B. Johnson High School (LBJHS),signed a scholarship to continue her education and basketball career at Morthland College in West Frankfort, Illinois. Barrientos started playing varsity basketball for the LBJHS Lady Wolves team during her freshman year, then rose in the ranks to play as a starter during her junior year, and then the forward position during her senior year. During an UISD Insider interview, Barrientos expressed warmhearted sentiments for her former teammates.

Academy Sports & Outdoors Helps UISD Students Dress For Success

     United Independent School District (UISD), thanks Academy Sports + Outdoors on San Bernardo Avenue for helping some students prepare for the 2015-2016 school year.

Following a brief press conference at the store, 25 students from Zaffirni elementary school were provided with vouchers for the purchase of new school uniforms. Parents, store personnel and U.I.S.D. teachers assisted students with their selections. Once the shopping was done, ​students were treated to a pizza buffet, courtesy of Cici’s Pizza.

Victoria Lara, LBJ High School Athlete Commits To Morthland College!

(Laredo, Texas)-Lyndon B. Johnson High School (LBJ) hosted a scholarship press conference for graduating senior, Victoria Lara, who signed a letter of intent to play college level Volleyball for Morthland College Patriots.
Victoria Lara, accompanied by her Mother Graciela Villarreal, Aunt Belin Villarreal and Coach Ariana Bermea, signed a 2-year scholarship in front of an audience that included fellow students, athletes LBJ coaches and campus staff.

United ISD To Host Uniform Voucher Assistance Event

(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD will host a uniform voucher drive for parents in need of a school uniform for their child.
The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on August 3, 4 and 5 at the Student Activity Complex (rooms 1 and 2) located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane. The event is open to parents of United ISD students who are enrolled from pre-k through 12th grade and are in need of a uniform for their child.

Youth Science Leaders of Laredo

(Laredo, Texas)-Two sophomores at United High School have launched a program for young science enthusiasts in Laredo. Roberto Ponce and Anthony Martinez have created the Youth Science Leaders of Laredo.
The primary focus of this organization is to get students ages 12 and up involved in science by “unifying them and showing them that science is not just for tests,” said Ponce.  He added, “Science is there to benefit you.”

United ISD, Laredo ISD, and Zapata County ISD Teachers Prepare Students for a Brighter Tomorrow

(Laredo, Texas)-Fifteen UISD Middle School Teachers collaborated with Laredo ISD and Zapata County ISD teachers as they visited local community worksites to conduct action research on “High Demand Occupation Opportunities” in our community.  The project was made possible by a South Texas Workforce grant.  Over 30 real world, learner centered lesson plans were developed reflecting 11 local industries.

UISD Encourages Donations of Gently Used Uniforms

(Laredo, Tx)_If your children have any gently used school uniforms they may have outgrown or no longer use, the United Independent School District asks that you consider donating them to help students in need.
Beginning now until school starts on August 24, 2015, UISD will have six convenient locations to drop off gently used school uniforms for students.  Donations can include gently used uniform tops, such as blouses and polo shirts, as well as, uniform bottoms such as pants, shorts, and skirts.  Additionally, donations of gently …

Doctor’s Hospital Mobile Clinic Offers Athletic Physicals for UISD Students

(Laredo, Texas)-The Doctor’s Hospital Mobile Clinic is offering free athletic physicals for UISD students at high school campuses in the District. Students under the age of 18 must have consent form signed by parents in order to receive these services. United High School Athletes take 1st on 7on7

(Laredo, Texas)-Athletes from United High School ​in the 956sports 7on7 tournament against Sharyland in Mission, Texas on June 27, 2015. The Texas State 7on7 Association is a private organization governed by coaches from the state of Texas that promotes football through 7on7 competitions.
The tournament consisted of 16 High school teams. Teams that finish in the top two qualify to move on to the 7on7 State
