Toys “R” Us Donates to UISD’s Annual Christmas Toy Drive

(Laredo, Tx)-To help bring holiday joy to some of United ISD’s under privileged children, Toys“R”Us has donated toys for UISD’s Annual Christmas Toy Drive.  “We are eager to find ways to give back to those less fortunate and be a part of their Christmas joy,” Said Pete Lugo, Store Manager.

“National School Bus Safety Week”

 (Laredo, Tx)-The United Independent School District Transportation Department observed “National School Bus Safety Week” with LISD by participating in a bus parade that started at United ISD’s Student Activity Complex (SAC)and concluded at the LISD Civic Center. Each District transported students from their respective Districts to attend proclamation honors in the auditorium.
County Judge Danny Valdez and CountyCommissioner Cindy Liendo read the proclamation before an audience that included Superintendents from both Districts and state and local law enforcement officials. A big “thank you” goes out our bus drivers …

(Laredo, Tx)-Three United ISD High Schools won a Superior Rating at the Music Region XIV UIL Marching Contest that was held on Saturday at the Student Activity Complex. The campuses that received a 1st Division or Superior Rating were: United South, Alexander, and United High Schools.  The Lyndon B. United ISD Hosted Jail & Bail for annual Christmas toy drive…

 (Laredo, Tx)-Employees of United ISD complied with “warrants,” executed by United ISD Police Department in efforts to raise money for annual Christmas toy drive.   Employees were served with a “warrant,” taken to the “UISD Jail House,” and stood before the “judge” to declare their innocence.

Centeno Elementary Students and TAMIU Student Athletes Celebrate National School Lunch Week

Laredo, Texas:  Centeno Elementary School students invited Texas A&M International University student athletes to join them as they recognized National School Lunch Week.  This year’s theme was “Get in the Game with School Lunch.” The event emphasized the importance of eating healthy foods that are offered daily for free at all UISD campuses.

Judge Ramiro Veliz Urges Regular Class Attendance

(Laredo, Tx)-On the morning of October 10, 2014, Judge Ramiro Veliz Jr. took time from his demanding schedule to talk to Los Obispos middle school students in the campus library. During the course of his 20 minute discussion,Veliz highlighted the importance of daily class attendance and detailed the consequences of tardiness and truancy. The judge also urged students to stay away from gangs and unlawful activities.

(Laredo, Tx)-Washington Middle School marked the debut of the school’s new marquee sign with a special ceremony. The sign will be used for the posting of school related messages such as sporting events, fundraisers, concerts, celebrations, and other activities important to the students, parents, and community.
Principal Beth Porter recognized Board member Juan Roberto Ramirez for his assistance in approving discretionary funds necessary for the purchase of the new marquee.

UISD Notice of Student Holiday

 (Laredo, Tx)-Due to a Districtwide Professional Development Day, classes will not be in session for students on Monday, October 13, 2014. However, all United Independent School District campuses and administrative offices will be open during normal business hours. Additionally, the UISD Tax Office located at 3501 E. Saunders will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Taxes can also be paid online at www.uisd.net. All United Independent School District classes will resume their regular schedule on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.

Photo Recap:  Choice Bus Visits Los Obispos Middle School

(Laredo, Tx)-Earlier this week, the Choice Bus visited students at Los Obispos Middle School.  The special designed bus offered students, through a 25-minute interactive presentation, the relevance of education with regards to career paths and lifetime income potential. 
After the presentation by Lead Presenter Chet Pennock, a full scale replica of a prison cell was revealed to students.  The visit of the Choir Bus was made possible by the Mattie C. Smith Foundation, State Farm, and Communities in Schools of Laredo.

United ISD Marching Band Festival To Take Place

 The United ISD Fine Arts Department will be hosting a high school band Marching Band Festival on Saturday, October 4th at the Bill Johnson Student Activity Complex-Stadium located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane. 
This festival is open to the public, admission is $7.00 per person, all tickets general admission.  Tickets may be purchased on Saturday October 4th, starting at 5:00 p.m. at the Stadium ticket window.
