(Laredo, Texas)-Recently, the City of Laredo hosted a street sign unveiling that transformed Avenida Los Presidentes to Panthers Avenue. Earlier this year, Laredo City Council members convened to vote for the name change.
“The City of Laredo wanted to commemorate the rich history and accomplishments of United South High School,” said Rudy Gonzalez Jr., Council Member for District 1. United ISD Board member Ricardo “Rick” Rodriguez presided over the unveiling and expressed gratitude on behalf of fellow Trustees,
Superintendent David Gonzalez and United South High School. “We wish to thank the city and its leaders for this amazing recognition.
I commend the work of Principal Adriana Ramirez and her teachers, staff and students. This wonderful tribute is for them”, said Rodriguez.
The name change applies from the George Washington Subdivision to the entrance of United South High School, north of Jaime Zapata Memorial Highway. The new signage can be viewed at the intersection of Avenue Tampico and Ave. Los Presidentes.
