Thanks to the donation of local sponsors, students from United High School recently attended and participated in the National Photoshop World Convention in Orlando, Florida. The national convention is designed to boost skills in design and photography using Adobe Photoshop.
 
Students are enrolled in the Graphic Design & Illustration program at United High School. (Laredo, Tx)- Due to a Districtwide Staff Development Day, classes will not be in session for students on Monday, April 29, 2013.  However, all United Independent School District Campuses and Administrative Offices will be open during normal business hours. 
 Additionally, the UISD Tax Office located at 3501 E. Saunders will be open from 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Taxes can also be paid online at www.uisd.net.
 All United Independent School District classes will resume their regular schedule on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

(Laredo, Tx)-“Charlie’s Angels” Beauty Salon and Spa, is donating Hair-do and Make-up sessions for 32 lucky female students from UISD high schools. “We are glad we can help these girls, because we know prom night is a very special occasion for them. We want for them to succeed and to know that Laredo’s community cares about them because they are our future,” said Carlos “Charlie” Salinas, stylist at “Charlie’s Angels”.

USHS Chess Team Takes 7th Overall At National Competition

The United South High School “Mighty Panther” Chess Team recently garnered a 7th place overall award at the Super Nationals V Chess Meet Finals held in Nashville , Tennessee .  There were over 5,340 players with over 1,560 teams competing from all over the United States , as well as, Canada .  The USHS Chess Team was also the highest placing  Texas high school in any division.

United Middle School Student Wins Top Honors in STEM Writing Contest

(Laredo, Tx)-United Middle School 7th grade student Nicholas Garza was the winner of the 7th grade Sci-Fi Writing Contest sponsored by Rice University ‘s STEMscopes Program.  STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math.  His story was entitled “Project Sunburn” which focused on a post-apocalyptic world.  He chose a telescope as his prize.  The writing contest is held to help students prepare for the writing STAAR tests in a fun and creative way.  Garza’s story was selected from hundreds of entries in the State.  Garza is pictured with …

Check Mate: Trautmann Middle Brings Home Chess Honors

United Middle Student Selected To Play at Carnegie Hall

(Laredo, Tx)-Bravo!  Bravo!  Maureen Rendon, an eighth grade student at United Middle School , has been selected to play at the prestigious Carnegie Hall on December 22, 2013.  The once in a lifetime opportunity came about when she entered the American Protégé International Competition, at the encouragement of her music teacher at the Laredo Music School .  It was through this competition that Rendon was selected as one of the winners in the Finalist Division, from over 250 musicians from around the world.  Rendon has been playing piano …

(Laredo, Tx)- Due to the upcoming holiday, all United Independent School District campuses and administrative departments will be closed on Friday, March 29, 2013. The UISD Tax Office, located at 3501 E. Saunders, will also be closed on this day.  However, taxes may be paid online at www.uisd.net.

Tony Parker Basketball Skills Clinic to Come to Laredo

 (Laredo, Tx)-San Antonio Spurs All-Star World Champion Tony Parker’s brother, Pierre, came down to talk about the upcoming Tony Parker Skills  Clinic , inviting area boys and girls, ages 6-17, to participate in the one-of-a-kind  basketball skills clinic taking place on Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 2-6 PM at the  Alexander High School Gym.  The camp is hosted by TJP Basketball (TJ and Pierre) and  Next Level Basketball Training and is limited to 150 guests; $125 Pre-Registration.
