Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies Intercept Guns, Magazines, Ammunition and a Silencer on a Southbound Traffic Stop

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Thursday, July 14, 2011, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a green Dodge Durango at the 24 mile marker on IH35 Southbound. Deputies noted discrepancies on the dashboard of the vehicle and eventually discovered 4 handguns, 32 magazines, 13 boxes of ammo and 1 silencer concealed inside. The driver, Ruben de Jesus Rangel, 28 years of age, was arrested and facing federal charges. Rangel is a convicted felon and is facing additional charges.
“ I am proud that our Deputies were able to seize these weapons and firearms contraband that were obviously headed to Mexico for the use of criminal activity. Therefore, saving many lives”. Stated Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
