Laredo, TEXAS – The City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor D. Treviño proclaimed the month of May as National Bike Month in Laredo, Texas. A proclamation ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. The Laredo & Webb County Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, along with its Active Transportation Committee and local groups, such as Bike Laredo, advocate for bicycle safety and active transportation annually during the month of May.

Promoted by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month has been celebrated since 1956 to encourage the many benefits of using a bicycle and to persuade the community to ride one. The League focuses on individual and community wellbeing by highlighting the use of bikes for safer streets, connected communities, and a more sustainable planet. This year, Bike to Work Week will take place from May 15-21st and Bike to Work Day is on Friday, May 19.

The City and MPO continue working with local organizations such as Bike Laredo, the Laredo Cycling Association, and other organizations to encourage the public to use their bicycles to commute to work, school, shopping, or for recreational purposes. During the month of May, the community can take the opportunity to participate in a number of activities planned throughout the city.
