(Laredo, Texas)-LC South temporarily closes due to water situation, will serve as water distribution site The Laredo College South Campus will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 22, starting at noon and all day on Wednesday, Feb. 23, due to the ongoing water emergency in Laredo. Interim Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs and Compliance Dr. David Arreazola, who oversees the Laredo College Health and Safety Operations Center, said the college is taking measures to ensure that students and employees can work in a safe environment.

“Unfortunately, due to this unexpected situation, our South Campus will be closed for a couple of days this week,” he said. “Since this area is one of many affected throughout the city by low water pressure and the water boil notice, we made the decision to protect our college community by suspending operations at our South Campus until the situation stabilizes.” As a result of this closure, several instructional activities, offices, and services will be relocated to the Ft. McIntosh Campus.

All student services will still be offered virtually, over the phone, and in-person at the Ft. McIntosh Campus. Laredo College remains in constant communication with the City of Laredo to monitor any developments regarding this situation. We are collaborating with our city partners to provide our support and resources until this situation is resolved. One of these collaborative efforts includes serving as a water distribution site.

We will have a potable water tank Wednesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The tank will be stationed in front of the Billy Hall Jr. Student Center through the northeast entrance on Lope De Vega Drive. The water distribution drive is open to the public. Community members must bring their clean water containers. Water will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. For additional information regarding the water distribution or college operations, the public can call (956) 764-5984 or visit the Laredo College social media platforms for updates on this developing situation. –
