Laredo, TX (Webb County) – In light of the Coronavirus outbreak and for precautionary measures, visitations at the Webb County Jail will be suspended starting today until further notice, Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
The decision to suspend visitations comes as a directive from the Governor’s office. According to a press release from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the suspension of visitations is in effect until terminated by the Office of the Governor or until the disaster declaration is lifted.
“We had to take this step for the safety of everyone involved. This includes inmates, correctional officers, staff, and visitors themselves,” said Sheriff Cuellar. “We understand the inconvenience that this may cause, but it’s for everyone’s safety.”
Currently, all arrestees are being screened by the county jail medical staff and anyone showing any symptoms or a fever of over 100.5 degrees must be medically cleared by a physician at any of the local hospitals.
Attorneys will be allowed, but will be screened before entering the jail.
