United ISD Appoints Carlos E. Martinez As Principal of E. Herrera Middle School

(Laredo, Texas)-The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Carlos E. Martinez as the new Principal of E. Herrera Middle School, which will open its doors for the 2020-21 school year.

Mr. Martinez earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of the Incarnate Word and a Master of Science degree in Education with a major in Education Administration.  Additionally, Mr. Martinez holds a state certification in EC-12 Special Education and a Principal certification.

Mr. Martinez began his 9-year career in education with United ISD in 2011 as a Special Education teacher at United South High School.  He taught Algebra, Geometry, and English in a resource and inclusion setting to students in the 9th-12th grade.  Mr. Martinez later taught World History and English II in the Special Education Department at United High School.  Mr. Martinez had also served as a Special Education team leader at Del Valle ISD and as an Assistant Principal for Hays ISD.

For the past four years, he has served as an Assistant Principal at Clark Middle School.  At Clark Middle, Mr. Martinez oversees 7th and 8th grade Special Education administration, TELPAS/LPAC, 6th-8th grade discipline, as well as the English and Math departments.

Mr. Martinez stated, “I am very honored and appreciative to be given the opportunity to serve as the new Principal of Elias Herrera Middle School.  It is with tremendous pride and gratitude that I embark on this new journey at UISD’s newest middle school campus.  I would like to thank UISD Superintendent, the school board and all my mentors along the way who have helped me as I enter this new chapter in my career.  I am elated and eager to work with all UISD stakeholders to create a wonderful school environment and to establish a new tradition as another successful campus with UISD.  Go HAWKS!!”

Ms. Martinez will assume his newly appointed position in July 2020, when E. Herrera Middle School opens its doors for its inaugural year.
