Jury Finds Lisa Byrd Flores Guilty

(Laredo, Tx)-A jury has found Lisa Byrd Flores guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury stemming from a car crash involving a Laredo police officer who suffered catastrophic injuries as a result.
On October 14, 2011, Lisa Byrd Flores struck Officer Jose L. Reyes’ motorcycle from behind with her 2006 Nissan Pathfinder while he was attempting to slow down traffic on the inside shoulder of Interstate Highway 35. Reyes was critically injured after being dragged more than 70 feet. He was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio, Texas due to the severity of his injuries. After several months of care, he returned to Laredo.
Flores was arrested on March 1, 2013 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, both second degree felonies in the state of Texas.
Closing arguments began this morning before the jury deliberated for three hours and found Lisa Byrd Flores guilty. The jury deliberated for another two hours and sentenced Flores to 5 years probated for 10 years with a $5,000 fine for each count.
Assistant District Attorney’s Claude Goldsmith, Timothy Eddins and Rodolfo Morales III were prosecuting the case for the state.
