LAREDO, TexasThe Toros of Nuevo Laredo took on the Fuerza Regia of Monterrey in their first home game at the SMG-managed Laredo Energy Arena on Tuesday. While the Toros were trailing by double digits during the first half, they quickly came back with a vengeance and decimated the Fuerza Regia in the second half.

Locking in their first home game win was testament to the power and talent of this truly international team. A healthy-sized crowd rooted for Laredo’s newest sports idol team, who put on an electrifying game.

The game, which follows the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the National League of Professional Basketball (LNBP) rules, was wildly entertaining as well as fast-paced, with plenty of alley oops and dunks.

The affordable ticket prices and friendly atmosphere makes this past-time fun for the whole family. The Martin High School band, color guard and cheerleaders cheered on Los Dos Laredos’ team on to victory.

“This was an amazing first home game for the Toros. They really showed Laredo just how explosive this franchise is and why Mexico is gowing crazy over what is arguably the best pro basketball team in that country,” said Xavier Villalon, general manager for the SMG-managed Laredo Energy Arena.

A short presentation was given by Toros team owner, Jose Hernandez Villegas, Laredo Mayor Raul Salinas, and Nuevo Laredo Mayor Benjamin Galvan during half time. Salinas and Galvan talked about the importance of fostering great relations between the two countries and our strong and vibrant international trade zone known as the Laredo-Nuevo Laredo metropolitan area.

The Toros take on the Leon Lechugueros on Thursday, September 6 at the Laredo Energy Arena at 7:30 p.m. For detailed game schedules and ticketing, please visit www.learena.com or www.torosnld.com.
