ConocoPhillips awards grant to LISD Campus Crime Stoppers Hotline

(Laredo, Tx)-For the sixth year in a row, the ConocoPhillips Corporation awarded a grant to the Laredo ISD Campus Crime Stoppers Organization as part of the company’s efforts to contribute to the quality of life in the Laredo area. Laredo ISD Campus Crime Stoppers recently received a generous donation from the ConocoPhillips Philanthropic Committee from the area office in Aguilares, Texas.

Lt. David Medina and Elda Lopez of the Laredo ISD Police Department received the check from Randy Black and the committee. ConocoPhillips has been supporting the Campus Crime Stoppers program by providing the monies for the past five years to pay for ten hotlines, fleece jackets for the conference student participants, and rewards to pay for anonymous tips.

Nine secondary school sponsors and the district coordinator take the phone calls and or text messages and forward the information about crime to the appropriate authorities such as school administrators, Laredo ISD Police Department, Laredo Police Department, Webb County Sheriff’s Office, and Laredo Crime Stoppers.

“The phones are essential to the success of LISD Campus Crime Stoppers,” said Estella Quintanilla, LISD Campus Crime Stopper Coordinator. “It is important that the community be reminded that all calls to the Hotlines will remain anonymous.”

With the assistance of ConocoPhillips, the program continues to be a success in seizing drugs which would have otherwise ended up in students’ hands. The employees hold events to raise funds throughout the year and decide which organizations will receive donations from the monies raised.

During the first quarter of 2012, LISD Campus Crime Stoppers has received 90 tips, approved 28 rewards, issued $985.00 in reward checks, recovered $45.00 in stolen property, seized $113.00 in drugs and seized 8 weapons.
