Tailgate Thief Arrested

On Sunday June 26, 2011 at approximately 11:44PM Officer were dispatched to 700 Puig for a reported crime in progress. Communications advised via radio that the female caller advised she observed a blue Chevy pickup with loud mufflers leaving the scene. The caller advised PD that a male subject had stole her husband’s Ford F250 tailgate. At this point multiple officers immediately responded. Officers set up a perimeter and proceeded to look for said pick up. Officers were advised to scatter inside the dense residential area while the supervisors searched the main arteries.
At approximately 11:53 a patrol supervisor advised via radio that he had a pick up matching the description by Arkansas and Montgomery and would be stopping it. The Sergeant advised the stopped pickup truck had multiple tailgates in the back of the bed of pick up. The driver was detained without incident. The driver was identified as Rodrigo Flores. A female and a child accompanied Flores at the time of the arrest. A witness identified Flores as the person stealing the tailgate at 700 Puig.
Consent to search was obtained at the suspect’s home at the 3100 Ash. CAPROS detectives found another tailgate inside the property. There were a total of three tailgates inside the bed of the pickup.
As people awoke this morning they began to report their tailgates stolen. They matched the ones found in Flores’ truck. He was charged with Theft of Property (motor vehicle parts). He was taken to Webb County Jail.
