Proclamation, Recognition at City Council

Earlier this week, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas proclaimed the week Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra Week in Laredo, celebrating LPO’s establishment in 1980 and for thirty years has been living up to its mission of providing educational and cultural enrichment to the community of Laredo and surrounding areas, thanks to a renewed a collaborative agreement with its partners at Laredo Community College and Texas A&M International University. Music Director, Maestro Brendan Townsend, serves on the TAMIU faculty and is the resident orchestral ensemble at these educational institutions, engages students from these institutions as performing members of the LPO, and offers free access to all concerts and rehearsals for students of these colleges. Joining Salinas were LPO Board of Directors Jeff Jones, Angeline Townsend, Maestro Townsend and Carlos Luna, who invited the community to attend the LPO concerts, to receive the gift of music.
Council Member Cindy Liendo Espinoza thanked and recognized the co-sponsors of the National Night Out – Target and Border Media – who helped to turn strangers into neighbors and helped the community to learn more about the local law enforcement agencies and City of Laredo departments who offer protection and services to the community. Joining Liendo and her colleagues on council were Margarita Rodriguez and Customs Officer Pat, who won the Mascot Dance-Off contest at the event.
