President Sets Specific Deadline for Agreement
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Pro-Trade Caucus (CPTC), released the following statement in response to the President’s commitment to resolve outstanding issues with the U.S. Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS) by November. Earlier this spring, Congressman Cuellar and the CPTC hosted bipartisan trade talks on Capitol Hill with South Korea Ambassador to the United States Han Duk-soo.
“The Congressional Pro-Trade Caucus remains dedicated to promoting trade as a tool to spur economic growth and job creation in the United States and I commend the President for his leadership. This May, we met with Korean Ambassador Han Duk-soo and we agree that implementing KORUS would hasten our economic recovery and open new doors for our economic strength. The CPTC will continue to promote KORUS and other meaningful trade policies that would strengthen America’s economy. As pro-trade members of Congress, we understand how beneficial this agreement will be to the United States. That’s why I look forward to working with the President to resolve all outstanding issues and pass this agreement into law.”
