Border Police Chiefs meet in Laredo with Federal Officials & International Chiefs of Police Association

 In cooperation with the International Chiefs of Police Association, Texas Border Chiefs of Police met in Laredo last week (July 07 and 08, 2010) to meet and discuss a variety of needs and other challenges that Texas Border Chiefs are currently faced with.  Only Police Chiefs and their designees attended along with Executives of other Federal Law Enforcement agencies. Those attending from the Federal Law Enforcement Sector were; Michele M. Leonhart- Acting DEA Administrator,  Charles Dinse-Department of Homeland Acting Assistant Secretary, Jerry Robinette-Special Agent in Charge for I.C.E., Thomas Padden-Department of Justice Acting Director, Elizabeth Saenz-U.S. Marshals Acting Marshal for the Southern District, Marco Villarreal-U.S. Marshal’s Office Supervisory Deputy, Mark McPherson-U.S. Marshal’s Office Supervisory Deputy, Charles Paulette-U.S. Marshal’s Office Acting Assistant Chief, Jerry Rust-D.E.A. Supervisor, Alex Ramos- U.S. Marshal’s Assistant Chief, Mario Lopez- Texas Department of Transportation,  Will R. Glaspy-D.E.A. Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Meliton A. Rodriguez-D.E.A. Special Agent in Charge,  Micheal R. Hinojosa-I.C.E. Deputy Special Agent in Charge, Jose Angel Moreno-U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jose M. Garza-F.B.I. Department of Homeland Security Director, Rosendo Hinojosa- Laredo Sector Border Patrol Assistant Chief, Robert Harris Laredo Sector Border Patrol Chief, Francisco G. Rodriguez-U.S. Customs and Border Protection Special Operations Supervisor, Aaron Grisby- Texas Rangers, and a representative of the Department of Homeland Security Intelligence & Analysis,. 

Border cities in attendance were; L.I.S.D. PD, U.I.S.D. PD, Del Rio PD, Union Pacific PD, Crystal City PD, UT Brownsville PD, TxDot-Mario Lopez, Uvalde PD, Eagle Pass PD, Roma PD, Woodway PD, Pharr PD, Mercedes PD, Anthony PD, El Paso PD, Mission PD, and Penitas PD. 

 The conference was sponsored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Since 1893, the International Association of Chiefs of Police has been serving the needs of the law enforcement community. Throughout those past 100-plus years, IACP has been launching historically acclaimed programs, conducting ground-breaking research and provides exemplary programs and services to agencies across the globe.  The International Association of Chiefs of Police is the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit membership organization of police executives, with over 20,000 members in over 89 different countries. IACP’s leadership consists of the operating chief executives of international, federal, state and local agencies of all sizes.  Representing the IACP at this summit were;  Mike Caroll- IACP President, Jim McMahon- Executive Director for IACP, James McLaughlin, Jr.- Texas Police Chiefs Association / General Counsel & Executive Director.  The primary mission of the summit was to discuss issues concerning border communities.  A variety of Law Enforcement sensitive topics were discussed.  The IACP is trying to formulate a cohesive partnership between all Texas border Chiefs in order to progressively have a bigger role in Washington, D.C. in order to build resources and allocate more federal funding for municipal police Departments along the Texas, Mexico Border.
