On Sunday, May 9, 2010 at approximately 7:43 a.m. LPD officers were dispatched to a hit & run accident by the intersection of Shiloh & McPherson involving a white Mustang which had fled the scene immediately after the impact. Officers canvassed the area and located the suspect vehicle by McPherson & Loop 20 driving with a flat front tire. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit the suspect attempted to run the ensuing officer off the road by side swiping the PD unit which caused minor damage to the unit’s brush guard. Furthermore, the suspect made a second attempt to collide into another police officer’s unit. However the second officer managed to avoid contact with the suspect’s vehicle. The chase came to a conclusion at the 2300 block of San Bernardo where the driver lost control of his vehicle and side swiped a utility pole then struck a building.
No real damage was visible to the utility pole, and only paint chips were visible to the building. The driver of the Mustang was arrested and identified as Jesus Ramiro Anguiano Jr. Anguiano was transported to the hospital for medical treatment by ambulance, no serious injuries were involved. Upon receiving medical clearance, Police transported defendant Anguiano to LPD booking, and then to the Webb Co. Jail and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention SJF and Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant F/1 (2counts). Of the initial accident call, the driver of the car involved in the accident refused to press charges or make any voluntary statements regarding the hit and run accident.
During the chase a black pick-up truck began to closely follow behind the ensuing officers. Initially officers spotted the truck following them while traveling west on Loop 20, and then South on IH-35. Assisting officers attempted to stop the black truck which initially failed to stop when officers attempted to pull him over. The truck eventually stopped on IH-35 southbound just north of the Chicago overpass. The driver was identified as Jose Roberto Barbosa, who is a cousin of Jesus Ramiro Anguiano Jr. who was driving the evading Ford Mustang. Barbosa was charged with Interference with the Duties of a Public Servant C/B, and Evading Arrest or Detention SJF since the suspect initially refused to stop for the officers.
