Laredo, TX – The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated against Influenza A H1N1. The vaccine is safe, efficacious, and although H1N1 is still acting like seasonal “Flu” those at high risk can have serious complications. The best prevention method to reduce the risk of illness is preventive measures and vaccination.
Wal-Mart Loop 20 Saturday, February 6, 2010 10:00 am to 3:00 p.m.
H1N1 vaccine will be offered to everyone and encourage those considered at risk (pregnant women, children under 5, and those with underlying health conditions) to get vaccinated. All children must be accompanied by a parent. H1N1 vaccine is FREE of charge.
CLHD continues to remind the public to practice prevention as follows:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it and wash your hands.
- If you cough, cough into your elbow, sleeve, or into tissues. Wash your hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
- Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- If you feel sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. Call your doctor.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
‘Hands-on’ prevention is key! There is a great germ-prevention program called Germ Smarts for Kids. It teaches them to both avoid catching AND spreading germs. Since my child learned it in pre-school, we no longer play the ‘pass the germs’ game!
