Several City officials and community leaders braved the cold yesterday to announce details of the planned extension of Ejido that will bring much-needed congestion relief to South Laredo. Aside from the project, City leaders thanked the two landowners who helped make the project a reality: Gerry Salinas and B.P. Newman. On hand for the shovel-ready project were Ronnie Acosta, Director, City of Laredo Community Development Department; Orlando Navarro, representing B.P. Newman; Salvador Mercado, MACTEC Engineering & Consulting; and shovel in hands: Gerry Salinas, Jr. and Sara Salinas; representing G.G. Salinas Engineering; Nancy de Anda and Javier De Anda, representing B.P. Newman; Gerry Salinas, representing G.G. Salinas Engineering; Mayor Pro Tempore Mike Garza, District II, in whose district the project lies; and City of Laredo City Manager Carlos Villarreal, the first to drive on the (unpaved) Ejido Avenue extension.
