When kids who attended the Webb County Buenos Aires Community Center 2009 Summer Camp return to school in August they’ll have a great story to tell as to what they did during their summer vacation.
Friday morning, more than twenty five kids will board a chartered bus and travel to the coast and learn first-hand about the unique ecosystem native to Mustang Island and the natural resources of the Texas Coast through the use of experts and hands-on learning. They will also be visiting the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.
For many of the participants this will be the first time that they will be able to see an ocean, play in the sand and even leave Laredo. The trip is being made possible through a grant received by the Webb County Community Outdoor Outreach Program which helps take low-income, minority, at-risk, and mentally challenged students from the inner city and rural areas to visit State Parks.
The group of students will be accompanied by the Buenos Aires Community Center staff and volunteers. The staff will conduct beach activities for the kids such as sand castle building and beach volleyball.
“This is a great opportunity for the kids to experience the beach and visit the Corpus Christi Museum.” said Commissioner of Precinct 3 Jerry Garza. “It’s a trip that they’ll remember for a long time.” Garza will be providing goodie bags for all those who go on the trip.
The group will return to Laredo Friday night.
