Special Saturday Clinic to Assist with New School Requirements

Laredo, TX – – The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) is reminding all parents there are new school requirements for immunizations. Appropriate immunizations are required by state law for all public and private school, preschool students and child care facilities children.  New requirements specifically apply to children entering kindergarten and 7th grade during the school year 2009-2010. Each child must provide a current immunization record when school begins. Don’t take a chance and make sure your child gets immunized now, before the school rush.

To assist the public the CLHD will be conducting a Saturday Immunization Clinic on June 13, 2009 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the Health Department (2600 Cedar Ave.). The administrative cost is $4.00 per person with a maximum fee of $12.00 per family (Medicaid may be accepted). We want to vaccinate as many children entering kindergarten and 7th grade now. We also want to remind parents that students will not be allowed to enter their grade if they are not current with their immunizations.  Parents may also take their children to their physician. Immunizations at the Health Department are routinely provided Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5-7 p.m. If you are a WIC participant both the participant and their siblings can get immunizations free at WIC clinics (for clinic schedules in WIC call 956-795-4928).

Vaccinations help your child’s body go through a series of steps to build protection to fight deadly diseases, playing an important role in protecting against infectious diseases such as: polio, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) hepatitis A, hepatitis B, haemophilus influenzae B meningitis, tetanus, diphtheria, and influenza among others. Immunizations against the human papiloma virus to fight cervical cancer and against meningitis will also be provided. Not immunizing your children puts them and other children at risk for developing serious diseases that can handicap children and/or are mortal.

Be wise, immunize now!
