The City of Laredo, Chief Ray Garner and the Laredo Police Department donated a used police cruiser to the City of Benavides Police Department’s Chief, Jose Daniel Garza, in order to better patrol presence in Benavides, Texas. With a population of 1,300 people and a police department of 2 officers (The Chief is one of the two) the young growing city asked for assistance from the Laredo Police Department and asked if LPD had any equipment or even a patrol car they could get handed down to them.
The request has been in the works since January 2013 and the item recently went before the city council and was approved. Used city patrol cars are eventually sidelined for sale at auction and occasionally the equipment may be donated to a neighboring community like Benavides P.D. The patrol car had all of its Laredo logos removed and Chief Garza says “this patrol car will greatly enhance enforcement and mobility for the Benavides police force. We are extremely grateful to the City of Laredo and the Laredo Police Department.” The police car is in good working condition and is estimated in value at approximately $25,000.
