(Laredo, Tx)-Judge Jesus “Chuy” Garza has ruled that Kristine Sandoval pay $400,000 in restitution to Jose Adan Martinez. Martinez was injured when Kristine Sandoval collided with a car in which he was a passenger. Martinez had to be airlifted to San Antonio, was on a ventilator for several months and is now both mentally and physically disabled.
The restitution requested was $416,658.73. This amount is strictly for medical bills related to the accident. The judge also ordered that Sandoval wear a SCRAM bracelet for a period of one year. The SCRAM bracelet is an alcohol detection bracelet.
During the sentencing hearing, the defense attorney Jimmy Sandoval, the defendant’s father argued that the SCRAM bracelet would be too costly. The fee for the bracelet is ten dollars per day. Judge Garza ordered that the bracelet be worn for a period of one year and ordered that it be done so at the defendant’s own expense.
