Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, February 24th, 2010, at approximately 10 p.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies
initiated a traffic stop Northbound on Highway 83 South. Sheriff’s Deputies discovered 12 large bundles of green leafy substance in the bed of the pickup truck, believed to be marijuana. The bundles were stacked under several animal feed bags, after further investigation, Deputies also discovered $2,042.94 in cash. The marijuana had an approximate weight of 424.8 pounds with an estimated street value of $215,000. Arrested was Jesus Mata, 57, of Laredo, Texas. Mata …

Special Investigations Unit is asking for the community’s help in locating two sex offenders that failed to comply with the Sex Offender Requirements. Robert Lee Tunal, 24, and Jose Lopez Jr, 68, have outstanding warrants of arrest for failure to comply with sex offender requirements Felony 3. Vector Utility will be laying fiber optic lines for AT&T at the intersection of Salinas and Lincoln; forcing the closure of Salinas and Hidalgo and Lincoln and Juarez. The road closure will begin on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. and will conclude at midnight. The same section of road will be closed on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, also from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On February 26, 2010, a narcotics investigation by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with The Laredo Police Department and The Federal Bureau of Investigation led Sheriff’s Deputies to a residence located at the 2500 block of Zaragoza where 30.6 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $2,000.00 along with 1.9 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of $400.00 along with Drug Paraphernalia were seized. On February 25, 2010 at approximately 8:15 pm, 911 Dispatch received a call of a suspicious vehicle by Prada-machine /Pamplona. As officers arrived they observed a van by Murcia and Lugo. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the van refused to stop and a pursuit began. The pursuit went south on Salamanca and during the pursuit, officers saw 4 persons jumping out and also being pushed out of the van. The pursuit ended by Lopez De Vega and Gen. Franco. Border Chairman Presses CBP to Deploy UAV Along Texas-Mexico Border
Washington, DC – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism, has requested Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to move swiftly without delay in placing an unmanned aerial vehicle along the Texas-Mexico Border to help gather critical intelligence information to combat drug trafficking, weapons smuggling and potential terrorism threats.
