(Laredo, Texas)-The Fourth Court of Appeals affirmed the judgment of conviction imposed on Joel Pellot, by 406th District Court Judge Oscar J. Hale, Jr. Pellot had appealed his convictions for murder and tampering with evidence with intent to interfere with an investigation.
On Tuesday September 22, 2020, at approximately 1:32 a.m. Laredo Emergency Communications received a call from a male subject, later identified as Joel Pellot, stating that his wife was unresponsive and possibly deceased at their home on 203 Canyon Oak Dr. Mr. Pellot informed the call-taker that he had given his wife a full bottle of pills. Minutes later, he discovered that there were only two tablets remaining in said bottle.
After a full investigation, it was determined that Mr. Pellot tampered with the scene, deleted digital evidence and destroyed evidence. The autopsy and toxicology analysis revealed that Maria Munoz had been poisoned with Versed, Ketamine, Demerol, Morphine, Propofol and Lidocaine. She also had Narcan in her system.
The trial presented evidence over nine days and the jurors returned a guilty verdict after 1 hour of deliberation. Pellot was sentenced to LIFE on Murder, 10 years for tampering with evidence and a $10,000 fine. Case was prosecuted by Chief ADA Marisela Jacaman, ADA’s Ana Karen Garza, Karina Rios and Cristal Calderon.
