(Laredo, Texas)-Lyndon B. Johnson High School (LBJHS), freshman Diego Gorecki is busy laying the groundwork for the distribution of 72,000 donated hand sanitizers (from 24 palates), to his 9th grade campus, Lyndon B. Johsnson’s main campus, and other elementary and middle school locations within the district. In response to the recent water crisis in Laredo, Diego contacted a private citizen who readily offered the generous donation.

His next step was to write a letter to LBJHS Principal Armando Salazar that stated: “Due to the situation that the city went through in recent weeks, I tried to find a solution to the problem of non-potable water and cleanliness; not only of my colleagues but also teachers and staff. I searched and found something that may help my school and community”.

With the support of his Principal, staff and LBJHS student organizations, Diego arranged the delivery of the palates to a central location and is focusing on logistics to distribute the hand sanitizers. “Diego is an excellent student and role model who took the initiative to help our students and employees.

As President of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter at his campus, takes the lead to help his peers and the community with health related matters”, said Salazar.

Diego is set to graduate in June 2025 from the Biotechnology & Life Sciences Innovative Academy and Early College High School Program. In addition to serving as current HOSA President, Diego is also a member of school clubs and organizations that include the LBJHS Robotics Team, AHEC and Newcomers Youth Club, YLL.

Moreover, he is the founder of the Laredo Youth Literacy Club and was Student of the Year and first President of the National Junior Honor Society at Elias Herrera Middle School in 2021. His future plans are to attend medical school and become a doctor.
