(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD is preparing to observe National School Counseling Week next month (February 7-11), to recognize the vital roles that school counselors play in the lives of students across the district. School counselors are certified, experienced educators who shoulder many responsibilities, and their special training enables them to help students when they face adversity such as bullying, trouble at home, academic performance, and relationship issues. They also listen to students’ interests and assess their skills and personalities to help them decide their future academic and career goals. Counselors also collaborate with teachers, educators, and parents, and work in a variety of settings including the classroom, groups, and one on one situations.
During National School Counseling Week, United ISD campuses will take extra time to acknowledge the contributions of its counselors by encouraging practices that foster the tenets of the profession*; Compassion, Consideration, Perseverance, Gratitude, and Kindness. The district also encourages parents to partner with counselors in their child’s schools to enhance their academic experience. “The Board of Trustees and I join everyone in the district to say “thank you” to our school counselors for their excellent work and dedication to our students. We also encourage the UISD community at large to reach out and let them know that they are appreciated,” said Superintendent David H. Gonzalez.
