City of Laredo and Laredo Police Officers’ Association Sign Collective Bargaining Agreement

Laredo, Texas – City of Laredo leaders and the Laredo Police Officers’ Association (LPOA) signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement on Friday, July 30th during a special ceremony at City Hall Council Chambers. After undergoing the proper agreement process by both parties, the negotiation of a new collective bargain that was in the works between LPOA and the City was approved by the Laredo City Council unanimously during a Council Meeting held on Monday, July 26.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement is a five-year contract term from October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2025 that provides wage increases (7.5%) and additional compensation for members of the bargaining units, costing is approximately $5,898,662. The breakdown includes:

Effective October 1, 2020, no ($0) increase
Effective October 1, 2021, a one-time stipend of $2,200 for the Laredo Police Department
Effective October 1, 2022, an across the-board two percent (2.0%) increase
Effective October 1, 2023, an across-the board two and a half (2.5%) increase
Effective October 1, 2024, an across the-board three percent (3%) wage increase
Other benefits included in the contract include retiree dependent health care for the Laredo Police Department and monthly premium pay for TCOLE certifications and education pay, which will become effective on October 1, 2021. Funding is available in the General Fund.
