Laredo, TEXAS – The City of Laredo’s Health Department is pleased to announce that it has received an additional 5,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for its eighth week of allocation, which will be the week of January 31 to February 6, 2021.

Through this shipment, the Laredo Health Department will be able to begin Phase III of the vaccine distribution plan, which will open a broader vaccine administration network within our community. In partnership with local school districts, the City of Laredo will offer 25 COVID-19 Vaccine Points of Dispensing (PODs) across the city and Webb County. The PODs are selected for a single-day operation that will provide 5,000 first time doses inoculations.

The vaccine operational plan will involve the following:

Single day operation
25 sites for vaccine distribution (180 doses per site)
4-hour operation from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (approximately 45 vaccines an hour)
Vaccines will be picked up by a school designee the day of vaccine administrations from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Vaccines provided in cooler with memory foam, ice pack, and data logger to ensure proper storage and handling
All ancillary supplies will also be provided

Staff members at each POD will include:

Crowd control
Registration
Vaccinators
Greeters/Screeners
Police/Security

The City of Laredo Health Department will disclose the 25 location sites soon. The city will also continue to focus and prioritize on those who fall under Phase 1A and 1B categories for the vaccine administration. The Emergency Operation Center continues to coordinate staff to take calls from those who do not have access to the internet or know how to use the scheduling portal.

On January 26, 2021, elected officials, city and county leaders met with the Associate Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services to request 10,000 doses to be delivered on a weekly basis. These would be used for the first dose inoculations. City leaders will continue to ask the State of Texas for additional vaccines.
