United ISD Teachers Recognized at 2019 School Bell Awards Program

(Laredo, Texas)-Three United ISD teachers were honored at the 2019 School Bell Awards Program held at Texas A & M International University. The event is sponsored by the Education Committee of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, Family Chevrolet, and the College of Education of Texas A&M International University.
The event is held each year to recognize and honor the tremendous work educators throughout the city of Laredo do. United ISD proudly presented three phenomenal teachers who took home the coveted “school bell” award. Teacher honorees included; Ms. Rebecca Laurel from Colonel Santos Benavides Elementary School, Cynthia A. Guerra, from Antonio Gonzalez Middle School, and Lucy K. Gutierre, from The Cherish Center.
Humberto ‘Tito” Gonzalez, Jr., Chairman of the Education Committee, and Miguel Conchas, Chamber CEO, headed the program, serving as the emcees. Dr. James O’Meara, Dean of TAMIU’s College of Education, Dr. Ricardo Solis, President of Laredo College, David R. Canales, UISD Executive Director for Middle School Education, and Dr. Gerardo Cruz, LISD Asst. Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction were in attendance representing their respective organizations.
Also participating in the program were Lizette Myson, representing Family Chevrolet, perennial cosponsor for the event, and Lorena Garcia, representing Killam Development, who this year joined the program sponsors. Committee members Nicole Werstak, Carmen Rendon, Nicole Romanos, Cynthia Conchas, and Raj Chekuri, and Chamber Administrative Assistant Gwen Chandarlis joined in coordinating details of
the program.
