Man Arrested with 22 Kilograms of Methamphetamine

(Laredo, Texas)-A Mexican national has been arrested with over 22 kilograms of methamphetamine.
On January 9, 2019, a surveillance operation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), with the assistance of the Webb County District Attorney’s Office, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, and the Laredo Police Department at numerous locations in Laredo, Texas in an effort to combat human smuggling. During the surveillance operation, Jorge Navarro-Azuara, a Mexican national, was observed at a local business in Laredo, Texas acting suspicious. Surveillance was then conducted on Navarro-Azuara, which in turn led to the observation of Navarro-Azuara attempting to elude law enforcement. A traffic stop was conducted on Navarro-Azuara and subsequently 22.45 kilograms of methamphetamine were discovered in the rear area of the vehicle Navarro-Azuara was driving.
Jorge Navarro-Azuara was subsequently taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance . He is currently being held at the Webb County Jail without bond.
Webb County District Attorney Isidro R. Alaniz applauded the efforts of this operation stating, “This arrest illustrates the coordinated efforts between federal and state law enforcement agencies in fighting crime along the border and protecting victims of human smuggling and other transnational crimes.”
