Carrizales is a Senior IRS Consultant who has worked with the VITA program since its inception at the District.VITA provides free income tax preparation services for families who have household incomes under $54,000.00. All volunteer tax preparation is executed by UISD Career and Technical Education (CTE), students who have been trained and certified to prepare basic tax returns for low to moderate income families.
Last year, the combined effort of VITA student volunteers at UISD’s four high schools yielded 4.3 million tax refund dollars from 1662 returns.” These numbers are impressive, and the students who prepared the returns should be very proud of what they have done to help others. I have received numerous inquiries from other school districts who want to know how they can duplicate the success of UISD’s VITA program”. he continued. Superintendent Roberto J. Santos praised the efforts of VITA administrators, teachers, trainers, site coordinators and students who have invested their personal time to help others. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I congratulate our CTE students and support staff. The no-cost services they provide to our community is invaluable”,said Santos.
