The District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty plea in its case against Kevin Eric Kirby, 34, in connection to a burglary he committed last year.

On November 1, 2017, the Laredo Police Department Communication Division received a call of a burglary that had taken place at the 2000 block of E. Reynolds St. Upon arrival, LPD officer was met with the victim who stated that her white Chevy Silverado had missing items. A surveillance video revealed that a male subject was seen walking on the side of the victim’s house and climbed the fence to get into the yard. Once inside the property, the male is seen taking items from the vehicle. The victim stated that the subject took a rifle, two handguns and other missing items from her vehicle.

After a thorough investigation, the male subject was identified as Kevin Eric Kirby through fingerprint analysis taken from the victim’s vehicle. On December 30, 2017, Kirby was placed under arrest and charged with Burglary of a Habitation, three counts of Theft of a Firearm and Burglary of a Vehicle, a second-degree felony, a state jail felony and a class A misdemeanor in the State of Texas, respectively. It was determined that he committed these offenses while out on parole.

Kevin Eric Kirby, a repeat offender, plead guilty before the 111th District Court Judge Monica Notzon to Burglary of a Habitation, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, and an Evading Arrest with a Motor vehicle that he committed a few days before this incident. During his sentencing, Kirby also plead true to a felony enhancement paragraph, which increased his range of punishment of Evading Arrest to two to 20 years and the Burglary of a Habitation charge to five to 20 years to serve. Kirby will serve 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institution Division.

Assistant District Attorney Estrella Ramirez prosecuted the case for the State.
