United ISD Announces Melissa Diana Shinn Principal For Trautmann Elementary

(Laredo, Texas)-The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Mrs. Melissa Diana Shinn as the new Principal for Andrew Trautmann Elementary School effective the 2018-2019 school year.
Mrs. Shinn is a native Laredoan, daughter of Lifelong Educators Cesar and Sara Salinas. She graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration/Administrative Management Degree from The University of North Texas at Denton in 1988. She holds certifications for Principal; Early (Childhood-Grade 12), Elementary; Self-contained PK-6 Bilingual/ESL (Grades PK-6) and Secondary; Reading Certificate. In 1999, she graduated with a Masters in Educational Administration from Texas A&M International University.
She began her teaching career in 1990, teaching fifth grade at J.A. Kawas Elementary at Laredo Independent School District. A year later, she moved to Garland, Texas to teach fifth grade at Abbett Elementary School with Garland Independent School District. Shortly after she moved back to her hometown of Laredo and taught fourth and fifth grade at J.A. Kawas Elementary. In 1998, she became an Elementary Reading Trainer in the Curriculum and Instruction Department for LISD. Two years later, she served in the capacity as Assistant principal for M.S. Ryan Elementary and in 2006, became the Assistant Principal for Leon Daiches Elementary.
She began employment with United ISD in 2007 as an Assistant Principal at Trautmann Middle School. In 2010, to the present, she has served as Principal of Dr. Henry Cuellar Elementary. In 2013, Texas A& M International University hired her as an Adjunct professor where she teaches for the College of Education focused on Engaging Learners.

I can assure you that I will do everything possible to continue to showcase the excellence Trautmann has come to be known for,” said Shinn.
Mrs. Shinn succeeds Mrs. Zaida Gonzalez who has accepted the Director of Bilingual Education/ESL/Dual and Foreign Language Program within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
