In a wonderful ceremony at J.W. Nixon High School eleven students were recognized for their phenomenal achievements in and out of the classroom. Four of those students came from our very own high schools. Samantha Chapa of John B. Alexander, Lizbeth Ortiz of Lyndon B. Johnson High School, David Gonzalez, of United High School, and Edna Romo of United South High School are the most recent students added to the prestigious list of students who have been honored as Head of the Class for their respective schools this year.
“This is a tremendous honor for our students,” stated Roberto J. Santos. “Their achievements and success academically speaks volumes of the wonderful leaders they are,” he stated.
Mistress of Ceremonies, Cassandra Mendoza, Nixon Principal, culminated the events with a quote by W.B. Yates who stated, “Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.” There is no doubt that each of the students honored today have ignited a passion for learning that will last for years to come.
