McAllen, Tx -Patrons of McAllen Public Library can help the less fortunate and reduce their fines through the Food for Fines drive, benefitting the RGV Food Bank. From November 1st through December 1st, the Main Library, located on 23rd and Nolana, the Lark Branch Library, located at 2601 Lark Avenue, and the Palm View Branch Library, located at 3401 Jordan Avenue, will collect non-perishable food items.
The Library will waive $1 from library fines for each item donated. There is no limit on the amount a patron may donate. Donations may only be used to leverage fines, but will not apply to fees due to lost materials.
Acceptable food donations must be sealed, non-perishable, not expired, multi-serving, and must not be in a glass container.
“We are fast approaching the time of year when many people throughout our community need a little help. The Food for Fines drive provides an opportunity to remove barriers to reading and make a difference in people’s lives,” says Kate Horan, Library Director. “By reducing their fines, patrons can use their library card to access all of the resources that we offer.”
Last year’s Food for Fines campaign collected 1,835 pounds of food and provided 1,529 meals to people in need. For more information, please call McAllen Public Library at 956.681.3000.
