The Rio Grande International Study Center Farewell Dinner Tribute for Dr. Tom Vaughan

For more than 30 years, Dr. Tom Vaughan has made a sustained contribution to the conservation of the Rio Grande – our only source of drinking water – and its watershed.
He established the state’s river monitoring program in Laredo/Nuevo Laredo, and has done river testing each and every month for more than 20 years. He also sat on a city-appointed committee to write key environmental ordinances for Laredo, and helped establish what is now the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center at Laredo Community College.
Additionally, Dr. Vaughan has worked to preserve Laredo’s few wetlands from development. His work as a university biology professor remains unparalleled as he consistently took out his students to do field work along the river, or at a creek or ranch.
Later this spring, he and his wife, Pam, will be moving to Tucson to be closer to their family.
We will miss Dr. Vaughan dearly and hope that you will join us as we honor the work of this environmental hero who continues to make Laredo a greener and better place to live.
