UHS Band Honored by Mayor and City Council

(Laredo, Texas)-The City of Laredo Mayor and City Council recently honored the United High School Band for advancing to state competition that was held on November 8 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

They were the only 6-A high school band from Laredo to advance to state competition and competed against other 6-A high school bands from around the state. Pictured left to right, front row, is: Jose M. Castro, Assistant UHS Band Director; Vanessa Garcia, Karlah Adan, Vanessa Trevino, Mariana Elizondo, and Jadee Dovalina, UHS band members; Mayor Pete Saenz; John J. Mallon, UHS Band Director; Carlos Borja, Carlos Rojo, Amanda Ramos, Ivan Briones, UHS band students; Michael Garcia and Michael Valdez​, UHS Assistant Band Directors.

This  year, the UHS band show was entitled “Star Crossed,” which is the story of Romeo and Juliet and includes the music of Tschaikovsky, Samuel Barber, Lady Gaga, Adele and Kelly Clarkson. The UHS band is comprised of over 300 members which include band and color guard members.
