TAMIU Service-Learning Expo is Tuesday

(Laredo, Texas)-Members of the area community are invited to learn about Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) commitment to service-learning and the service-learning projects done by students at the upcoming the Service-Learning EXPO Tuesday, April 26 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Student Center (SC) ballroom.

            Admission is free and open to the public.

The Service-Learning EXPO is the event of the semester for students in service-learning courses to showcase their work and be recognized for their efforts. Students will present how service-learning enhanced their academic learning and their civic responsibility.

A total of 395 students will showcase a total of 104 projects and represent 13 service-learning courses currently offered at TAMIU. Projects include a community garden, “Brainfest,” and “Team Work and Communication,” where students promote local events by PILLAR, Toastmasters and Literacy Volunteers of Laredo.

            Upper division students will present their posters in the SC ballroom.

UNIV 1102 students will present from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the SC rotunda.

            Students will present their projects from 9-11 a.m.

            Michael González, activity director, TAMIU Title V Focus on Student Success (FOSS), will speak at 11:15 a.m. about the importance of service and how the experience helps students in their future careers. A FOSS grant enabled the development of several courses by funding a service-learning grant for faculty.

            An award ceremony will be held at noon.
