(Laredo, Texas)-Noted literary scholar and author of The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage, Paul Elie, will be a special Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) guest lecturer Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, Room 101.

His lecture will focus on author Flannery O’Connor’s short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find.”  The lecture is free of charge and open to all.

Paul Elie is a Senior Fellow with the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and the director of Georgetown University’s American Pilgrimage Project, a partnership with StoryCorps based in the Berkley Center. Before joining Georgetown, he spent 15 years as a senior editor with Farrar, Straus and Giroux in New York.

His work deals primarily with the ways religious ideas are given expression in literature, the arts, music, and culture in the broadest sense.

He is author of two books, “The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage” (2003) and “Reinventing Bach” (2012); and of essays and articles for The Atlantic, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Commonweal, and other periodicals.

In the American Pilgrimage Project, he is examining the ways religious beliefs inform the experiences of the American people at crucial moments in their lives.
