LISD Teachers attend SMART Conference

With the first day of school just one week away for public school, LISD administration, faculty, and staff started their school year by attending the LISD
SMART (Successful Meaningful and Relevant Teaching) Conference held at Martin High School. The Elementary SMART Conference was held today while the Secondary SMART Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
.Both elementary and secondary school teachers reported back to work on Monday morning for their annual required staff development training. Faculty and staff have been participating in various training exercises including Building Academic Vocabulary, STAAR Writing, Science Academy, Bullying and Cyber Bullying, Soaring into Science through Reading, and I Pads in the Classroom.
The SMART Conference is one of several staff developments held throughout the year for LISD educators as required by state law. The Attached is a schedule of SMART Conference training activities.
On Wednesday, close to 4,200 LISD employees will participate in the annual Back to School General Session held at the Laredo Civic Center Auditorium
