Volunteers would assist vendors with transactions
(Laredo, TX ) Silk rebozos. Silver hoop earrings. Hand-carved wood furniture. Traditional artisan crafts. Rich leather products. Delicious meats, spices, tortillas and candies. These are just some of the many magnificent products that are sold at the Sister Cities Festival & Expo, and it is precisely for this reason that the City of Laredo is seeking volunteers to assist the over 150 vendors who will be featured at this year’s 9th Annual Sister Cities Festival, taking place next week at the Laredo Energy Arena from Friday, July 22 – Sunday, July 24, 2011.
“These are just some of the wonderful merchandise that our sister cities from 11 Mexican states and 35 cities who will be here will be selling to the public,” said City of Laredo City Secretary Gustavo Guevara, who manages the Sister City relationship. “However, due to federal commerce regulations and/or policies in place at the Laredo Energy Arena, these vendors are prohibited from handling any monetary transactions. That is why we need volunteers, to work at the booths and conduct these transactions.”
Volunteers need to be at least 16 years old and should have cash handling experience. Volunteers must be U.S. Citizens and being bilingual is a plus. The vendors will set the prices and provide the petty cash – all transactions will be in cash only. Professional or business casual dress will be provided by the volunteers themselves; white shirts with black or khaki pants. Volunteers must be available to work four-hour shifts on all three days.
Times for the Sister Cities Festival are:
Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Saturday: 9:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Interested individuals should contact the City of Laredo City Secretary’s Office at 791-7399 or via e-mail at ac*******@ci.us " target="_blank"> ac*******@ci.us or the Convention & Visitors Bureau at 795-2200 or via e-mail lc**@ci.us " target="_blank"> lc**@ci.us at by no later than Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Volunteers will have an organizational meeting that evening to discuss and review all protocols and procedures.
