TAMIU’s Binational Center Holds First Annual Nonprofit Excellence Summer Institute

 Texas A&M International University’s Binational Center will hold its first Annual Nonprofit Excellence Summer Institute for leaders of private foundations and non-profit organizations June 1 – 3, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at La Posada Hotel. 

A one-day workshop designed to drive non-profit organizations to success by identifying their strengths and opportunities, the Institute is a leading gathering of civic leaders, executive directors, board members, volunteers, attorneys, trustees, CEOs and CFOs of private foundations and non-profit organizations also interested in developing a clear plan that addresses their organizational needs.

Alheyda Guerra, associate director of Binational Programs at TAMIU, said leaders of non-profit organizations will benefit from attending the Institute and interacting with nationally recognized presenters.

“There are currently many changes occurring in non-profit organizations because of budget cuts and changes in laws,” Guerra said, “This Institute will teach participants how to manage their organizations’ resources and maximize their impact. They will also learn successful fundraising methods and ways to effectively utilize volunteers.”

Topics discussed at the Institute range from how the changing demographics in Texas will affect non-profit organizations and new laws governing them to fundraising in an international community and how to utilize volunteers effectively.

Institute presenters include David Condon, a nationally recognized expert on fundraising, capital campaigns, and non-profit strategy and co-author of best-selling book, “The Perfect Nonprofit;” Kevin Bingham, a national consultant of non-profit organizations and co-author of “The Perfect Nonprofit;” Misty Marston, former Boys & Girls Club national training associate; Armando Rayo, vice president of engagement at Cultural Strategies; Barry Silverberg, president and CEO of Texas Association of Nonprofit Organizations (TANO); Lesley Mitchell Briones, director of criminal justice initiatives and legal counsel for the Laura and John Arnold Foundation; María Eugenia Calderón-Porter, executive administrator for US-México relations at TAMIU, and Mary Beth Harrington, executive director of the Austin Public Library Foundation and director of agency relations at the Volunteer Center of North Texas.
