Half a million dollars will work to keep Laredo’s border safer, more secure
The City of Laredo just received word that it will receive a $500,000 grant from the State of Texas Governor’s Office Recovery Act on Border Security and Trafficking, to focus on border security.
The Border Security Law Enforcement Grant will be used by the Laredo Police Department for overtime, extra manned security along the riverbank and especially, additional interdiction efforts along the southbound bridges to look for cash, weapons and stolen vehicles.

It’s time to trade up your home appliances and take advantage of the Texas Trade Up Alliance Rebate Program. Beginning April 7th, Texans can apply online and over the phone for $23 million worth of energy-efficient appliance rebates.
Rebates vary from $45-$1,600 for refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers, water heaters and other typical home appliances. Rebates will help Texans replace old, but functional, appliances with new ENERGY STAR or CEE (Consortium for Energy Efficiency) qualified appliances.

At approximately 12 in the afternoon on Friday April 02, 2010, Downtown Patrol Officers charged with securing the busy Downtown area arrested 40 year old Gilberto Navarro at Jarvis Plaza located on Matamoros and Juarez. The downtown officers had received several concerns about persons loitering and also selling drugs in the Jarvis Plaza area. Several descriptions have been obtained by police and Navarro fit one of the descriptions of those possibly selling drugs in this area. Navarro was found with 7 doses of Heroin in his possession.
