City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas, Council Member Gene Belmares, District VI, City Manager Carlos Villarreal, and Chief of Police Carlos Maldonado, along with other leaders in the community met with Texas Governor Rick Perry immediately after speaking at today’s CLEAT luncheon. Starting on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 7:00 a.m., Meadow Avenue between Corpus Christi Street and Guadalupe Street and Laredo Street between Seymour Avenue and Mendiola Avenue will be closed. This work is expected to last approximately one week and additional street closures will be announced as they arise. This closure will not impact east-west traffic along Corpus Christi and Guadalupe Street nor north-south traffic on Seymour and Mendiola.

The Office of District Attorney Isidro Alaniz reports that the jury in 406th District Court has returned a verdict of Guilty on all counts against Jose Antonio Martinez of San Antonio.
Martinez is now facing up to twenty years in prison for having beaten his fifteen year old girlfriend with a hammer and forcing her into prostitution on three separate occasions.
According to trial testimony, Martinez and his girlfriend were staying at the Loma Alta Motel on San Bernardo Avenue in late March and early April 2009. Soon after arriving …
