(Laredo, Texas)-UISD Collaborated with the Imaginarium of South Texas to host the Real World Financial and Healthy Lunchbox workshops at the Clark and Raul Perales middle school campuses.
The workshops were also attended by Washington middle school students. The financial workshops were led by Ashley Gastineau, Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Science extension agent from Prairie View A&M University.Ms. Gastineau focused on personal budgeting and finance management.
“As decision-making skills are developed, a person’s quality of life is enhanced. This financial literacy course provides students with an opportunity to learn about budgeting and prioritizing expenditures,” said Gastineau.
Lisa M. Dunn-Flores, Coordinator of UISD’s Gifted and Talented and Advanced Academics program followed with her Building A Healthy Lunchbox presentation. Ms. Dunn illustrated the advantages of eating healthy organic foods versus the risks of consuming highly processed foods.
Students were treated to a sample of aHealthy Lunchbox. The meal consisted of organic produce and turkey lettuce wraps provided by the Imaginarium of South Texas. “It is imperative that children understand the impact that different foods have on their bodies-this program gives them an opportunity to sample “clean” nutrient dense foods that promote and help sustain good health” said Dunn.
