The Laredo Independent School District is launching a new communication tool for its families. Called Parent Portal eView, the new, online system will help keep parents up-to-date on student’s grades, attendance, district activities, and events.
The Parent Portal eView is a web-based application that allows parents/guardians instant access to student data. Information will be linked directly to the teachers’ electronic gradebook. The new system will be rolled out in September and is a great tool for parents to keep track of their children’s progress. Parents will have access to student grades by grading period, assignments and exams, teacher comments, attendance data, and schedule information. When the system becomes available in September, parents will be able to fill out an application with the Campus Parent Liaison at their child’s school. Campuses will be informing the public when the system comes online and applications for Parent Portal eView are available.
“We highly recommend parents to get involved in their child’s education,” said Rosina Silva, Director of Guidance and Counseling, “and this tool is a great way for them to dive right in.”
Between the Parent Portal eView and the recently acquired SchoolMessenger service, LISD hopes to remain in constant communication with students, parents, and employees. SchoolMessenger gives principals and administrators the power to contact all parents and students by going to the web-based application and preparing a single message. The message can then be sent out via phone message, email, and text message in English or Spanish. SchoolMessenger, which has a calling rate of several thousand per minute, is a great tool in case of emergencies or weather days.
“The Parent Portal eView and SchoolMessenger facilitate better communications between our parents and LISD educators. We encourage our parents to sign up and use the communication tool to maintain a professional level of dialogue. SchoolMessenger has already proven to be an invaluable asset to our school district,” stated LISD Superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson. “The system has already been used to welcome parents back to the new school year, and will also be used to announce Meet the Teacher Nights and our Town Hall Meetings on September 13, 2011
To receive the most up-to-date communications, parents should verify that their contact information is correct through their respective campus registrar’s office.
