Special Recognition Awarded During Monday’s Laredo City Council Meeting

LAREDO, TX— On Monday, September 16, 2024, Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño had the honor of recognizing an outstanding individual who has not only excelled in the field but has also proudly represented Laredo in front of other cities and organizations.

This special recognition is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to celebrate the achievements of local residents who shine both in their professional careers and through their extracurricular passions. It’s a moment of pride for the entire community as we continue to acknowledge those who make Laredo proud. The recipient of Monday’s award was:

The City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño proudly presented the Keys to the City to Mr. Cuauhtémoc “Chito” Rodríguez, a legendary figure in baseball and one of the most iconic sports figures in Los Dos Laredos. Born in Yavaros, Sonora, Mexico, Rodríguez moved to Nuevo Laredo at the age of 2, where his father, a member of the Mexican Customs Guard and a baseball lover, instilled in him a deep love for the sport. As a player, Rodriguez went on to play in Little League, Third Force League, and Intermediate League before making it to the minor leagues.

Rodríguez’s most prestigious career includes serving as the General Manager of the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos, leading the team to championship victories in 1977 and 1989He also earned the title of “King of Baseball” by the Minor Leagues, becoming one of only two Mexican players to receive this honor. His contributions to the sport have made him legendary.
