(McAllen, Texas)-The City of McAllen has been made aware of an email that went out last night regarding payment of a “City Compensation Fee” for current applications to the City of McAllen, for such projects as subdivisions, variances, site plans, etc. The email asks for payment with an attached invoice, before being able to proceed with the requestor’s application.
The City of McAllen does not have a City Compensation Fee. Emails from the City of McAllen Planning & Zoning Department occurring during non-business hours or days should always be regarded as suspect and in today’s age of internet scams, suspect emails should be verified before opening.
The email appears to have come from a “@usa.com” inbox. The City of McAllen only uses the @mcallen.net inbox.
If anyone has received such an email, please disregard, do not click on the attachment and report as junk.
