City of Laredo Addresses World Trade Bridge Traffic Delays Due to Storm Damage

LAREDO, TX – Following last night’s severe storm, significant damage was sustained on the Mexican side of the World Trade Bridge, including major damage to the roof of the customs facility, which has severely impacted the importation process. As a result, southbound commercial truck traffic is currently halted from crossing into Mexico. For safety reasons, Mexican customs officials, Agencia Nacional de Aduanas de México (ANAM), have advised that no importations will be processed at this time.
The Mayor and the City of Laredo is in active communication with Mexican authorities to address the situation and minimize the impact on cross-border commerce.
ANAM officials from Nuevo Laredo are mobilizing personnel to the Colombia Solidarity Bridge to process shipments there temporarily, and all agencies are working together to divert southbound traffic to the Colombia Bridge until further notice.
In addition, both ANAM and the City of Laredo are working to return trucks currently on the World Trade Bridge, as they will not be able to be processed at this time.
In response to the situation, Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño has issued an emergency advisory notice. The City of Laredo is making preparations to manage traffic flow on the U.S. side to prevent delays and ensure business operations are minimally disrupted at both the World Trade Bridge and Colombia Bridge.
“As we are dealing with damages on the Mexican side of the World Trade Bridge, Laredo will be impacted with traffic delays due to commercial traffic not being able to be processed. We are informing the public to stay vigilant and informed as this situation is evolving and mitigation plans are being implemented. As Mayor, the removal of these delays is a priority because of the impact on our public safety and commerce for the rest of the country.”, said Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño.
The City of Laredo is committed to working closely with Mexican officials and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to expedite solutions and mitigate any adverse effects on public safety and the economy.
