Tool energizes the Moody Amphitheater in Austin, Texas with mesmerizing graphics that blended perfectly with their setlist. Lead singer Maynard James Keenan was as elusive as always opting to perform behind the shadows of the lights moving from two prompt stages used only by him throughout the evening not setting foot in front of the main stage till the end of the concert as he thanked concert goers for their attendance.
Maynard started the night requesting that the audience not use their phones for photos or videos promising to allow them to use them to record the last song of the night so that they could enjoy the concert the way it was meant to be as you appreciated more the full experience of the band’s music and artistry with accompanying graphics on the screen.
The 11-song setlist started with Fear Inoculum, then continued with The Pot , Rosetta Stoned, Pneuma, Intolerance, Descending, The Grudge with Emily Wolfe joining the band on guitar, the band then went into an 11 minute intermission to return with Chocolate Chip Trip that also included a second guest Pat Mastelotto on drums , Tool then finished the evening with Flood, Invincible, and finally closing with Schism as Maynard welcomed back the crowd from its musical journey allowing them to record the final song as promised.
At a glance, the Moody Amphitheater was sold out (final official numbers not yet released) with the crowd erupting at the beginning and ending of every song as they mimicked from their seats the rocking motions of lead singer Maynard and Bassist John Chancellor, Dany Carey thunderous drum performance, and guitarist Adam Jones’ guitar play echoed throughout the halls of the Moody Amphitheater as the halls were left empty while remained glued to their seats during the band’s nonstop performance that added to over 2 hours.
As you walked outward of the amphitheater after the show you could hear the fans joyous conversations as they shared their favorite moments of the concert.
True to form Tool did not disapoint.
